Lena Papapanagiotou

By tearing and making collage of acrylic mono-prints and chance-found studio material, I create views of my memories and locate them, re-assembling their coordinates.

My work is influenced by visual effects of light, shapes, powerful landscapes and also emotions and memories. I paint with all media which I like to mix, mono-print, collage, anything goes as long as it takes me by surprise.

There is usually a beginning in naturalistic study of the subject matter, which gradually gives way to more interesting abstractions and reconstructions where the lines, shapes and above all colour, play an important part in the composition. I stop only when I feel I have deposited on the surface my untold feeling, a part of myself which the viewer is going to connect with.

I have been an active artist since 1988 when I graduated from Athens School of Fine Art and have taken part in several art exhibitions. Since 2004 I have taught ‘Say it with Colour’ art classes and from 2010 have managed ‘Hangingwater Studio’ in Nether Green, Sheffield.
