Maria Marinou

My artistic practice incorporates modern aesthetics and traditional craft techniques of oil painting, in order to depict various aspects of contemporary abstract painting.

Growing up in Athens, Greece, I was fascinated by incredible displays of ancient sculpture and ornate architecture. As such, I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember. Since graduating from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2012, I have been looking for ways in which to further evolve my artistic practice in combination with an in-depth knowledge of past traditional painting processes and techniques.
Through a thorough investigation and experimentation with painting materials and their traditional techniques, I created a combination of experimental recipes uniquely formulated in order to create a one-of-a-kind aesthetic effect through abstract painting practice.
I maintain a lifelong fascination for painting and the power of colour, as well as the material nature of artistic production which is expressed by colour field abstract painting.
