Mary Sewell

Continuing to explore materials, processes and mark making. I will be showing paintings, collages and small sculptural forms using objects wrapped in natural materials.

Mary has worked and lived in Sheffield since completing a BA (hons) in combined and media arts at Sheffield Hallam University in 1993. During this time she travelled in Asia, Africa and the Middle East which has influenced her practice and palette.

She works as a mixed media artist in her studio exploring materials and well as teaching English to speakers of other languages.

“This year I have continued making mixed media paintings using collage, mark making, wax and the process of burning. Since getting an allotment and spending weekends digging I find myself drawn to natural materials and processes. I have been working with clay that I have dug from my allotment using it as pigment in paintings and to make small sculptural objects evocative of ancient artefacts.”
