I live and work in Sheffield as a practising artist and tutor. My work is a response to being in nature and records places visited and imagined. Not only do the larger elements of the landscape inspire and captivate me but also the smaller detailed aspects – such as a single grass as it is blown about in a gentle breeze or a tiny feather. I sketch in pencil, charcoal, pen and ink and watercolour whilst in landscape and these are used to inspire drawings, prints and paintings in the studio. There is often for me an ‘in between’ time that I walk in and through when out in nature – a time that is partly in the ‘now’ and partly in my imagination and dreaming. Often the work becomes an expression of my experience and memory, with just remnants of the actual places visited and viewed.
