Alfreda Reynolds

Monochrome photographs with an emphasis on compositional form and graphic elements. Cards and archival quality, fine art prints.

My interest lies rather away from just recording reality, so pressing the camera shutter is only a starting point. I like to interplay light and shade, tone and texture to create a visually interesting composition that is beyond what would be possible (or even desirable) in colour.

Infrared images offer further intrigue and with other techniques such as long exposures I can explore where the imaginative photographic eye takes me. Although a successful outcome may not always be the result I like the unpredictability this brings to my work. I aim for my images to be atmospheric, sometimes a little abstract, with compositional factors like shape and line giving structural coherence.

I work from digital and scanned film originals. Processing is digital and finished exhibition pieces are printed onto fine art paper using archival inks.
