Finbarr Lucas
At Finbarr Lucas, we transform local hardwoods and reclaimed timber into chairs and tables, cabinets and wardrobes, display cases and shelving.
I trained in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University 25 years ago, making wooden sculptures as part of my final show. After graduating, I started prototyping sculptural shelves and tables using a laminating process I had employed on the course, and I showed the results to shops and galleries.
I have now been working as a self-employed furniture-maker for 18 years. My interests have broadened out from the sculptural work I began making to include a passion for the material itself. I source timber locally whenever I can, and we have become known for our use of local hardwoods, as well as reclaimed timber, to make a range of cabinetry and other furniture.
Together with my assistants Oli Brereton and Hazel Drummond, we are developing a range of furniture pieces and homeware to be sold direct. We will have our initial pieces for display at Open Up this year!
