Jacqueline Hilson

I make textile wall art, based on the technique known as Reverse Applique. I also make hand-knitted, velvet-backed throws.

I am concerned with communicating colour through the use of silk, cotton and thread. I work mostly in the abstract and the flowers and the trees that I do depict are rarely to be found in nature. It is the ‘essence’ of the thing that interests me.
My work is an insight into who I am; what holds me and drives me to create what I do.

The idea of a piece of art working on several level intrigues me.Thus the layers of fabric, cut into and then stitched over function as a metaphor for life, or as a pleasing assortment of fabrics and threads.

My Nigerian background, faith and interest in Celtic, Medieval and Elizabethan art, as well as having such a wealth of trees and countryside on my doorstep, has all contributed to my artistic practise.
