Jane E Marsden

Mixed media using textiles, paperclay, eco dying and printing based on natural forms, mythology and storytelling.

I love to mix techniques and new artistic ideas, blending a variation of methods to produce each piece. My artistic journey has seen me gather ideas like jewels since childhood. Im influenced strongly by the world around me, particularly natural forms to integrate into otherworldly subjects, including mythology and storytelling, I love the idea that every piece has it’s own story. The materials I use vary depend on the chosen subject: textiles incorporate wool, appliqued fabrics and hand stitching; Paper clay to create images, bowls and jewellery using multiple layers of paint washes, varnishes and painted details; Plants and natural dyes are used in a traditional way to create eco printed and dyed fabrics, used in my textile pieces or as silk, and wool scarves; Printing using collograph, mono print and lino cut techniques to make pictures and cards. I use a combination of all these in each artwork.
