Janine Barnsley

I make unique pieces of silver jewellery, with gold, silver and oxidised detail, matte and polished surfaces inspired by ancient artefacts and urban cityscapes.

Having gained a DIPAD Hons in 3D Design/silver jewellery in1973, I have been designing and making jewellery ever since, mainly selling work to shops and galleries but am now concentrating more on one-off pieces.

I have always been fascinated by artefacts from ancient cultures and the marks left on them by their makers and using mainly hand tools, I feel a connection with these artisans.

I combine colour and texture in my work, using gold, oxidised silver and semi precious stones, also making marks and textured finishes on matte and polished surfaces.

I also find inspiration in my love of architecture, creating work in response to the urban cityscapes of my immediate surroundings and Paris, after 3 summers spent cat sitting there. I recently designed and made an exclusive range of jewellery for the Millennium Gallery shop, based on their buildings.
