Currently I am working on a series of mixed media paintings which vary in scale. These range between A0-A6. They explore the themes of space and memory and what arises when they meet. Two elements are in play here. Firstly, there is my direct response to the physical locations I visit. I find myself drawn to locations where buildings and spaces are in the process of being built up or knocked down. There is a fragility and transient nature to these environments that I try to capture in my work – a constant testament to the impermanence of life and inevitability of change.
The second element is my reflective response, which begins in my studio. It is an intuitive and organic process. By working and re-working several images simultaneously, by adding layers of colour and texture, and constantly reflecting on the various stages, my inner dialogue becomes visible.
