Keith Jaques

I create decorative and functional items on a lathe using native and exotic hardwoods striving to reveal the natural beauty of the wood itself.

I am a self taught woodturner having been turning for four years. I enjoy the process of working the wood while it is spinning on a lathe and seeing the gradual reveal of the grain pattern and texture as I work. I strive to allow the wood to reveal its natural beauty, sanding to a very smooth finish and sometimes polishing to a high gloss when making jewellery to show the true depth of the natural beauty within.

It is the naturally occurring patterns within the wood which inspire me whether that be the grain structure itself or the more exotic patterns occurring within spalted timbers. I use a mixture of native and exotic hardwoods sourced either locally and seasoned by myself or from reputable sustainable suppliers.
