Rebecca Nex

Photographer – producing fine art prints; mainly plants, still-life, and coastal. I also experiment with the cyanotype ‘blue-print’ process, producing mainly botanical images.

I have been a keen photographer for just over 10 years. I honed my skills through learning from other photographers at the Sheffield Photographic Society, gaining inspiration from the many nationally acclaimed photographers that come to lecture there. I regularly contribute to exhibitions with the society locally, regionally and nationally. The prints I produce often have a ‘painterly feel’ to them and are printed on fine art paper. My current work is mainly plants and still-life, though I also enjoy travel and coastal photography. I also work with the cyanotype process, a camera-less way of producing prints using light-sensitive chemicals. My cyanotype prints are typically made using plant material. My images are nearly always in colour, but often soft, muted or pastel. I experiment with ‘deliberate camera movement’, and photographing through different layers e.g. frosted glass, greenhouse windows or fabric, to add depth, texture and mystery!
