Throughout my career in art and design I have developed imagery from observation of nature and developed that on paper before interpreting into textile processes. I always involve machine embroidery. Textile techniques are often chosen as a means to mixing colours and making visual effects which are rich and lively. I love combining machine stitch with a coloured background and observing the subtle differences which can be achieved. I work on a couple of different sewing machines, both are industrial machines so stitch very fast. Recently I have been working with layered surfaces, stitching through layers of fabric leaving glimpses of the background fabrics and using line drawing sourced from drawing grasses, landscape and seascape. In the end the original source may not be realised by the viewer but without that starting point and that development and that attraction to colour this would not be the result.
