Katherine Stephenson

I create fused glass wall art and statement pieces, working in innovate ways to capture movement, colour and texture with unique reactions and painterly effects.

My work has developed conceptually to convey the notion of “a sense of place” in the viewer’s mind. Created solely from glass layers, kiln fired multiple times; each unique landscape expresses the essence and spirit of location and offers clear suggestion of a scene whilst allowing the viewer to form their own subjective interpretation of it.

I am inspired by wild rugged landscape and big dramatic skies. I constantly experiment and I’m currently exploring the unique chemical reactions of combining glass with pure silver. After a career in higher education, I now feel fortunate to have the time pursue my artist passion. The beauty of fused glass, as an art medium, is that it appears to be constantly changing in different lights and settings. I harness this to create unique atmospheric glass art.

I am a member of Peak District Artisans and regularly exhibit my work both locally and nationally.
