Amanda Packham

Amanda Packham

My pieces are hand built and sculptural using flat coils to form hollow, wax etched glaze washed forms. I also produce tiles/ plaques and bowls.

My curiosity with clay started at 12 years old, picking out clay from the river bed and firing it at school. Fast forward after diploma, sculpture degree and 35+ years of teaching Ceramics and Fine Art in schools, colleges and community groups and clay is still my passion.

I’ve worked on many commissions and exhibited over the years and am currently a tutor at Sheffield Arthouse, with outreach groups and teaching/ making from my studio.
My influences centre around Prehistoric and Neolithic art, the first contact with clay and history of the written word. I create expressive, often mixed clay, currently figurative sculptures along side intricate tiles. I view my journey with clay as integral to my wellbeing and it is this foremost that I endeavour to share with others.
