A studio potter based making sculptural objects with a functional purpose.

I throw pots standing at my wheel working with both an intense concentration and a wondering. Each piece different, but often produced in a series exploring ideas of form and materiality. Pottery at once simple and most complex: a mixture of design, technique and instinct along with a search for rightness.

My garden studio is part of the making process and a literal container. A collection of tools; some specialist and many homemade. Two kilns, one electric and one gas-fired. An accumulation of work lining the walls helps to fuse a technical understanding with visual imagination.

A self-taught potter I draw on my training as a landscape architect, engineer and urban designer. I always wanted to make things and be outdoors.
