Jenny Smith-McOnie

I am a printmaker and illustrator creating original hand-made prints on paper. My work is textural and colourful specialising in the collagraph printmaking technique.
I love to sketch from life and my current work takes inspiration from my daily drawings – small moments of beauty I find in the everyday.
My work is often connected with a sense of place and escapism, exploring the landscape of the Peak District and Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, as well as locations in Sheffield.
I’ve recently been creating a series of prints inspired by the glass pavilions at Sheffield Botanical Gardens. I combine collagraph, monoprint, and drypoint techniques to achieve a colourful, illustrative style with depth and distance.
With a background in fashion design, I’ve always enjoyed sewing and dressmaking, which is reflected in my ‘pattern-cutting’ series and the stitching techniques used to build my printing plates.
My studio is in my converted garage in Greystone S11, where I create prints and illustrations, and offer workshops and classes in printmaking.
