Jon Nicholl

I work in silver, using wood, glass and other re-cycled material to create functional silver tableware that is modern in look but traditional in form.
Post-retirement I am working as a silversmith mainly making functional silver tableware. To date I have made beakers and goblets, napkin rings, coasters, jiggers, salt, pepper pots, cruet sets, boxes, bowls and some table and tree decorations. I have also made some single items such as a milk jug, a clock and a cocktail shaker.
I work in silver, often using other materials such as wood and glass and re-cycled ceramic and Blue John bowls, to create designs that are modern in look but traditional in form. I use enamel, glass paint and gold plating to create and highlight details.
As well as designing all the pieces myself, all the craft – piercing, forming, soldering, cleaning and polishing, enamelling and plating – is done by myself in my workshop, and I am keen to share the creative possibilities with others.
