Michael Claxton

Through the medium of oils, I strive to evoke a sense of calm, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the atmospheric paintings I create.
The simplicity of nature is a constant source of inspiration for my paintings, capturing the shifting light and the tranquillity of open spaces. My aim is to capture the essence of a distant view, capturing the way light interacts with the landscape.
Living in the UK, I am fortunate to be surrounded by a diverse range of coastal environments. From rugged cliffs to expansive sandy beaches, each location possesses its own unique character, influenced by the ever changing moods of the sea. It is these shifting atmospheres that inspire me to explore the interplay of light, colour, and texture in my paintings.
Working from memory gives me more freedom and expression and the ability to work using bold brushstrokes alongside palette knife mark making achieving rich textured paintings full of energy and emotion.
