Pamela Anne Briggs

Pamela Anne Briggs

I am a painter and I make hard-edge, geometric, abstract paintings in various sizes. My work is inspired by Byzantine and ancient pattern.

I began my studies in art at Barnsley School of Art in the 1960’s, followed by a B.A. Honours Degree at Maidstone College of Art, and more recently M.A. in Creative Practice at Leeds Arts University, both with distinctions. In between times, I spent around ten years researching and making traditional Byzantine Icons.

Inspired by ancient pattern, I use timeless geometric shapes that can combine to re-invent historical pattern through tessellation and optical illusion. I work sequentially through many permutations in my work journals, developing ideas for finished pieces with detailed and precise drawings and maquettes.

When exhibiting work, it’s versatility means that the paintings can be shown as large-scale installations as well as groupings of individual pieces and maquettes.
