Peter Bennion

I photograph ancient stepwell architecture & landscapes of the deserts of Rajasthan and the monasteries & Buddhist culture of Ladakh, Tibet & Bhutan.
I’ve been going to India for almost 50 years but it’s only in the last 20 years that I’ve found the subjects I want to photograph: the Buddhist regions of the Indian Himalaya, especially Ladakh & Zanskar, Bhutan, Nepal & Tibet as well as the ancient stepwells of India built over the last 1000 years to access water in the dry season. This spring, we’re heading to Karnataka in central India so expect to see new images of the massive vertiginous stepwells that date back to the 1st millennium. Framed pictures and prints for sale.
