Philip Alderson

Sheffield illustrator and ceramic maker blending colour, humour and character into playful creations. Inspired by music, nature and any distractions beyond the task at hand.
I’m on a clay adventure — come and see me in my garden shed and discover what I’ve uncovered so far.
I’ve always felt compelled to make things alongside my careers as a graphic designer, children’s book illustrator, and games artist. Creating has been a constant in my life, a way to amuse and entertain myself. But after a brush with the big C left me feeling vacant and disconnected from the joy I once took for granted, I reluctantly agreed to try a pottery class. To my surprise, it became the catalyst for my creative recovery.
Eight years on, I’ve finally found time to return to clay, and with the advice and generosity of artists and makers in Sheffield, I’m excited to see where this journey leads next.
I’ll be in my studio selling pots, making new pieces, and clearing space for this next creative chapter.
