Ruth Miemczyk

Ruth Miemczyk

My work explores the materiality of surface through painting, drawing, print, assemblage and installation, often referencing my English/Polish heritage.

After several years training as a painter, I have worked as a practicing artist and teacher of art for over fifty years. I have taken part in numerous group shows and residencies nationally and internationally as well as achieving thirty solo shows, including two major solo exhibitions in Poland. I am an active member of the Association of Polish Artists in Great Britain and more locally a member of Leeds Fine Artists.

Absence, separation and loss are themes that reverberate throughout my work and often reference growing up with two cultures, one English, one Polish. My work explores the materiality of surface, how it holds and reveals stories of human interaction alongside the very nature of our world.
