Samantha Groom

Samantha Groom

I create bold, bright, colourful & playful wood and linocut prints, hand-printed wooden ornaments, abstract and illustrative collages & textile work including lampshades. I also run workshops.

I studied sculpture for my fine art degree, but on discovering woodcut printing soon after graduating, I realised I was home. I love the rigidity of wood and how a carved line doesn’t always go in the direction you expect!

Inspiration for my work springs from everyday things around me, nature and a love of process and play. Experimenting with materials, colour and composition. When printing I work instinctively; building up layers, combining colours, shapes and textures, striving to find balance, harmony and clarity. My collages are created by utilising recycled prints and other found paper to create both abstract compositions and illustrative work inspired by my local community.

I have been a full time artist for over 12 years after over a decade of teaching art & design in school. I now regularly visit schools as an artist as well as running art and printmaking workshops throughout Yorkshire and beyond.
