Sally Cunis

I am a printmaker mainly creating linocuts to form relief prints. I enjoy experimenting with combinations of relief print, monoprint, tetra pack and drypoint etching.
I am constantly experimenting with different forms of print, often overlaying them to achieve a variety of effects. Working in a newly refurbished stone studio in the garden, I am surrounded by the plants and garden birds which inspire my designs. Initial pencil and ink sketches are transferred onto lino blocks prior to carving. Blocks may by tiny or vast depending on the subject. Inks may be mixed and a fade may be used across a block to give colour variation. An old book binding press, a wooden spoon, a hand-held Slama or baren and my new multi-purpose press are all put into service depending on the scale and complexity of the print to be pulled ! I love handmade paper. We have even made some sheets ourselves, in the kitchen, in a wheelbarrow. Great fun but somewhat messy!
