Bryan Munsey

As a creative woodturner who cares about the environment, I turn only South Yorkshire timber that has fallen naturally or been felled for safety reasons.
In 1986 I built my own pillar lathe from scrap metal, turned the garage into a studio and put chisel to wood for the first time since my schooldays. As a working engineer, cutting into the softer material was a joy and being able to shape the material to maximise the patterns in it was a new experience. I am inspired by the shape of the piece of wood as well as the grain. I turn bowls for use as well as pieces intended for display only. I aim to allow the beauty of the wood to shine through each piece I turn. All items are finished with appropriate natural materials. After more than thirty years of turning I still love what I do.
