Gemma Madgwick

My artistic practice centres on life drawing, creating fast, expressive images, and focusing on the process and how it feels.

My work explores fast, expressive markmaking through life drawing, floral studies and experimental wire pieces. I enjoy pushing and distorting figures, whilst creating images in short bursts, using a variety of mixed media. Texture, movement and imperfection are central to my process, and I’m drawn to the beauty found in every type of body and natural form.  Creativity is something I believe should be accessible to everyone, even within the pressures of everyday life. As someone balancing work and single parenthood, short creative sessions have become an essential escape and a way to reconnect with myself. Over the Open Studios weekend, I’ll be developing new work and inviting visitors to experiment with blinddrawing techniques using locally sourced flowers. My work will also be available to purchase.

About my studio

RivelinCo’s community space is a former high street shopfront on Middlewood Road. Studio access is step free. We have an accessible toilet and gendered toilets.
