Mary Pettit

As a mixed media artist I create colourful paintings, photographs and jewellery exploring the natural and man-made landscapes of the beautiful Peak District and Sheffield.
I am inspired by rocky gritstone edges and the forms left by industrial history together with colours and silhouettes of local woodlands and plants. My paintings are created using oils, inks and acrylic in a semi-abstract style on canvas and paper as well as acrylic and aluminium surfaces for my jewellery and digital photographic work. Using gold and silver prints creates a modern alternative to traditional presentation and allows detail of natural forms to shine through. My work is both large and small in scale.
After a career in teaching and as an arts adviser I returned to my first passion for creating art. Inspired by impressionist and abstract painters, I try to create an emotional response through colour and line.
I have exhibited the Courtyard Gallery Dronfield , the Frontier Gallery Sheffield and the Green Man Gallery Buxton.
I give a percentage of sales to child centred charities.
