Mo Laycock OBE

I paint semi-abstract pictures, mostly inspired by the local scenery of Bradfield, Worrall, Wortley and the Peak District as well as travels abroad. I also do textiles and mixed media work.
My website evidences the range of my work as an art returner since retirement in 2011. The sea, stormy skies, hills and mountains are my inspiration.
In my paintings/textile work I try to capture my emotional response and the atmosphere of the moment. I paint using acrylics and oils as well as in textiles work, using fabrics, paper, found items etc. I use lots of layers, scraping, gestural markings and more layers until I am satisfied with the outcome. Having been brought up in Herefordshire, hills, valleys, mountains, rivers and the sea always pull me in and evoke responses. The work of Paul Cezanne has always influenced me.
I am generally in the studio for 2/3 hours daily. This is my therapy after being a secondary headteacher for 17 years. 2025 will be my 11th Open Studios event & I look forward to this.
