Paul Stockley

Come and see the unique sculpture garden that I have created over the past ten years, using concrete as my medium. There’s a fascinating sculpture trail to follow, full of strange beasts and carvings
Since last year’s Open Up I have had solo exhibitions at The South Square Centre at Thornton near Bradford and The Art House Sheffield, as well as exhibiting pieces at The Meanwhile Space, The Fronteer Gallery and Art In The Gardens, Sheffield.
I enjoy exploring the huge potential of concrete as a sculptural medium and experimenting with the huge versatility that it offers. I particularly enjoy carving and, because I am using concrete, I have to work fast before it sets, something that encourages spontaneity and a bold approach in the initial stages. I make abstract, impressionistic and also realistic forms such as animal heads. I am interested in the psychological and philosophical process of creating art and the potential that it has to enable self-expression and to represent the hidden inner workings of the mind.
I also create sculptures over armature which enable me to make larger more complex forms and my studio garden is full of the larger pieces I have made.
