I photograph the water gathering architecture of the desert landscapes of Rajasthan and monasteries, landscape & culture of the Buddhist Himalaya in Ladakh & Tibet.
I photograph the architecture of the deserts of Rajasthan & the monasteries and Buddhist culture of Ladakh in northern India. I have been travelling to India for many years and wanted to photograph subjects that weren’t already well documented.
I explore the dry semi desert of Rajasthan for stepwells that were built in the search for water – underground architectural masterpieces that date back a thousand years & are largely unknown to the casual visitor.
In the far north of India I photograph the ancient Buddhist monasteries in the cold desert mountains of Ladakh, often called Little Tibet. As a practising Buddhist I keep returning to Ladakh & have twice visited Tibet.
In a world that is being rapidly covered with concrete I want to share these beautiful architectural forms before they disappear. They are a source of wonder & inspiration. I prefer to keep the images fairly formal & show them as they’re seen through the lens – they don’t really need any help from me.
