Sally Cunis

Inspired by my wild country garden and the birds which inhabit it. I am a traditional printmaker carving linocuts to form relief prints together with other forms of print.

In addition to traditional linocuts I create monoprints using foliage from my garden and etch into tetrapak as well as acetate to make drypoint etchings. I enjoy combining different forms of print perhaps adding chine collé, a fine overlay of print bonded onto another. I have a choice of presses; an old book binding press, a hand-held Slama or baren and a new multi-purpose printing press. I sketch out my initial ideas for the relief prints transferring them onto printing blocks using tracing paper or a light box. My range of carving tools, rollers, inks and papers ( sometimes homemade) seems to grow day by day! Repurposed furniture; including bookshelves, an old drawing board & a plan chest helps to keep my workshop in order.
