Sarah Joseph-Dasent

I am a Trinidadian painter now living in Sheffield.
Utilising acrylic on canvas, my semi-abstract work is inspired by cultural expressions and personal introspection.
I obtained my BFA in Painting and Set Design from Howard University, Washington D.C. USA in 1991, and since then have been exhibiting consistently for over 30 years in my home country and abroad.
Now making Sheffield my home, I am a member of the Walkley Edge Artists as well as the well-known Peak District Artisans with whom I have exhibited widely over recent years.
I am known for my vibrant layers of organic transparencies; each painting a distinctive interpretation of the world around me .
Utilising acrylic on canvas as my medium, my use of colour boldly reveals my Caribbean heritage.
My work consistently features the human figure, exploring a wide range of themes—from deeply introspective reflections to inspiring landscapes.
At times, my art delves into timely social and environmental issues, always with the intention of evoking a meaningful response from the viewer.
I work in a small home studio so I will be showing my work and some of the methods I use in a shared space in Walkley. I will also have a stand at the Art in the Aisles event at St. Mary’s Church On Saturday May 3rd from 10am – 4pm and Sunday May 4th from 1pm to 5:pm.
