Sarah Linda Cassels

My art consists of multiple disciplinary practices in the hopes of exploring identity and the body as a vessel.

The work I create often comes as a means to explain a word or feeling. I employ various media to express what I want to say. Photography, drawing, performance and painting I used to initially find an access point into work, but from time to time these processes could also be the work. Artists such as Meret Oppenheim, and Pedro Friedeberg are a constant inspiration to make unexpected art. I love the challenge that found-objects present. Being able to transform an element from what is known to something other drives a hunger in me to experiment with different materials. but it is also this need to use language as part of my work artists such as Glen Ligon, Barbara Kruger, Tracy Emin and Adam Pendleton use language as their practice either through the work itself or the underpinning of the work is language-based.
